Product range. Premium casuals for men and women. Clothes by this brand are so nondescript that were it not for the label that reads "Marc O'Polo" you would never guess where it comes from. Shirts are king there. The brand has long been known as a natural fiber shirts specialist.

Chic. Marc O'Polo are not in the very least bothered by trend shifts. The brand's guiding principle is to "Follow Your Nature", which means to encourage calmness and reconciliation rather than bold actions and self-expression.

Originality. At the time of its launch, the brand's unique selling proposition was its reliance on the use of natural fibers. Nowadays, however, viscose and polyester prevail over cotton in the composition of most of the pieces by Marc O'Polo. Muted colours and timeless silhouettes are anything but unique either, and are used by a number of other labels to their advantage. Think Massimo Dutti and Gant. Worse still, collections by the latter look way more relevant than Marc O'Polo's.

Pricing. Overcoats are £400, shirts are £100, and trousers and jeans are about £130.

Corporate history highlights. Marc O'Polo was established in 1967. The company was founded in Stockholm by the Swedes Rolf Lind and Göte Huss and the American Jerry O’Sheets. The friends were inspired by lightweight Indian cotton shirts sold on the streets of Stockholm. The first collection piece by Marc O'Polo was a patchwork shirt. In 1975 the brand could boast full-fledged maiden womenswear and menswear collections. It was only in 1979, however, that the company opened its first store in Düsseldorf, Germany, in a franchise partnership. By 1997, the German Werner Böck, the founder of Marc O'Polo Germany (established in 1968), acquired almost 80% of the company's outstanding shares and moved the corporate headquarters to Germany. In the years that followed the brand also got involved in licensing footwear, bags and small leather goods, eyewear, and lingerie.
