Originality. Wolford are credited with the invention of stay ups with an elasticized band, ladder resistant tights, and seamless socks. The company has been true to its innovative hi-tech spirit for decades. Wolford recent collections feature forming tights and lingerie with a high natural fiber content which makes them always soft on the skin. The fibers are ultrathin and barely visible, while gussets are made of soft and elastic cotton. Bra cups are lined with wearproof cotton. As for the design part, Wolford favour time-honoured styles only. The label offers all-rounder items that are available in a range of essential colours from white, beige and nude to pink and purple, to grey and black.
Chic. Wolford make essentials of impeccable quality.
Pricing. Expensive. Tights are £35 to £90, hold-ups are £20 to £37, bras are £60 to £100, while body suits are never less than £75. Apparel by Wolford is even less affordable: dresses range from £115 to £400, while fine merino ponchos cost £225.
Corporate history highlights. Wolford have their origins in Austria with the headquarters in Bregenz. The company was founded there by Reinhold Wolff and Walter Palmers in 1949. Before they met in Oxford in the late 1940s and then joined their forces to launch Wolford, Wolff was known for his expertise in hosiery, while Palmers was actively involved in lingerie manufacturing.
