A Polish take on the barbiesque mass market fashion

Review of Mohito

Product range. Inexpensive apparel and accessories with a new take on the celebrated Barbie style. Imagine H&M collections, then dispense with all basics and clothes for the young and leave only the most feminine and playful pieces: sequin dresses, soft flowing blouses, pleated skirts, leather leggings, embroidered bomber jackets, glitter high heels, boy bags, and colourful leather sneakers. That's how you arrive at the essence of Mohito. The palette is dominated by blacks, whites, pinks, and reds. The prints are either floral or geometric.

Originality. Unlike other labels with a similar concept, Mohito manage to make sexy clothes never teetering on brink of obscene. Mohito piece don't look cheap thanks to furnishings kept to the minimum and clean cuts. That said, the choice of curved rules used by Mohito designers tends to be suboptimal more often than not, and some pieces look best when hanging on rails, not when put on young women.

Chic. Arguable. Mohito offer new readings of classic styles but are somewhat servile in following current trends. Essentially, it's trimmings that make them relevant. Mohito collections know no size-less and unisex styles no matter how popular they may be elsewhere.

Pricing. Affordable. Outerwear costs about £65 per piece, shirts and blouses are £20, dresses are £25, skirts are £30, and footwear is £25.

Corporate history highlights. The brand history is grossly unremarkable. Mohito were conceived as a brand of feminine casuals for those aged 25 to 35. In 2009 it was acquired by LPP, a Polish mass market fashion powerhouse that also owns Reserved, Cropp, House and other labels.
