The warmest of all sportswear and the sportiest of all warm clothes

Review of Luhta

Product range. The label is best known for its sportswear-inspired outerwear with details kept to the minimum. No nonsense and all business. Luhta also offer a limited range of fitness clothing and unassuming casuals like blouses, T-shorts, and jumpers. Luhta is certainly a go-to for warm and quality down jackets that would be handy not only for skiing enthusiasts, but also for all those living in the Northern Hemisphere and have the straight from horse's mouth experience of what it feels like when your thermometer reads minus 25 centigrade.

Originality. The label puts emphasis on sourcing quality materials its outerwear manufacturing. Linings are usually 70% down (made of avian plumage) and 30% feathers.

Chic. At Luhta they are indifferent to the latest fashion trends, but are up to advanced materials and technologies for wind- and waterproof cold-resistant outerwear.

Pricing. While T-shirts and hoodies are priced as low as £15 and £45 respectively, outerwear by Luhta is not cheap, at least not by most standards. A women's down jacket can cost up to £150 to £200.

Corporate history highlights. The company was founded in 1907 by Vihtori Luhtanen. His wife designed and sewed, while Vihtori was handling the distribution and other managerial tasks. As time passed the business expanded, and in 1928 the company launched its first sewing workshop at an abandoned industrial site off of Lahti railway station. The company went through major hardships during the Second World War to due the shortage of textile supply. However, by the 1950 the supply recovered, and the company got a second wind.
